MAGNERS SYDNEY IRISH FESTIVAL
The 2018 Irish Festival is a celebration of all things the Irish culture has to offer: food, drink, dance, music and sport…and most importantly, having fun!
There’s no better opportunity to embrace your green DNA, or simply adopt it for the weekend, and share a jig and a pint, and a heavy dose of Celtic pride, with your friends and family on November 10 – 11, 2018.
I mean how often do you get the opportunity to eat real Irish cuisine, watch Sean-nós dancing or witness world-class standard hurling? In fact, CNN ranks hurling just behind the Olympics at number 2 on the list of sports you must see live before you die. And now’s your chance to see it.
On November 10 and 11, the Sydney Showground will turn green for the 2018 Irish Festival and play host to international music acts Damien Dempsey, Mary Black, Lunasa and Saint Sister while also featuring kids favourites Nick Jnr’s. PAW Patrol and Bananas in Pyjamas live shows! Come along and also enjoy an array of roaming performers, bars, food outlets, stalls, traditional Irish dance performances, comedy, how-to-hurl classes and amusement rides. There’s something for everyone!
The jewel in the festival’s crown sees the Galway Tribesmen, winners of the 2017 GAA Hurling All Ireland Senior Championship and home to no less than 7 All Stars, take on the reigning 2018 Allianz League Champions, Kilkenny in a historical hurling game at Spotless Stadium. This is more than an exhibition, with the winner earning direct entry into the 2020 incarnation of the tournament and being awarded the coveted Wild Geese Trophy.
The trophy is set to mark the cultural respect that exists between the Australian and Irish people, and has been named in honour of 6 Fenian brothers who successfully escaped W.A. and the drudgery of a British ruled penal colony in 1876; an act of defiance that would later become known as the Catalpa Rescue.
This is a festival like no other and one the entire family can enjoy so get your tickets today!
